HOUSTON – June 15, 2023 – Today, Protect and Serve Texas PAC issued the following statement as Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, who led the charge to defund law enforcement in the county’s budget, prepares to endorse pro-defund police candidate Sheila Jackson Lee in the upcoming Houston mayoral race:

“It is only fitting that a county judge who has consistently hamstrung law enforcement in Harris County would endorse Congresswoman Lee to serve as Houston’s mayor, as both have the same record of supporting the ‘defund the police’ movement and demonizing law enforcement professionals,” PAC spokesperson Donald Baker said.

“Even though Houston voters say that crime is the top issue heading into November, advocates for defunding law enforcement offices are continuing to rally around radical anti-police candidates to help turn Houston into Chicago. Judge Hidalgo’s recent expletive-laden conspiracy theory rant against county law enforcement officials on the dais of the commissioner’s court shows us exactly the kind of hostility that Hidalgo and Jackson Lee have toward the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our neighborhoods safe. We are confident that Houston voters will reject the radical anti-police policy positions of Judge Hidalgo and her anointed mayoral candidate, Sheila Jackson Lee.”
