HOUSTON – August 21, 2023 – Today, Protect and Serve Texas PAC (PSTX PAC) issued the following statement after failed U.S. Senate and Gubernatorial candidate and notable supporter of defunding and ‘dismantling’ police forces, Beto O’Rourke, endorsed Sheila Jackson Lee for Houston Mayor:
“Sheila Jackson Lee is racking up new endorsements from radical pro-defund politicians on a near-daily basis, which should leave no doubt to Houston voters as to where her values really lie,” PSTX PAC spokesperson Donald Baker said.
“The latest endorsement this week from Texas’ least favorite perennial statewide candidate and supporter of the ‘Defund the Police’ movement – Beto O’Rourke – further demonstrates why Jackson Lee is wildly out of touch with calls from Houstonians to prioritize public safety.”
During a June 2020 episode of the “Looking Ahead to Beto Days” podcast, O’Rourke not only said he ‘loved’ defunding line items from police budgets but went on to confirm his support for ‘completely dismantling’ police forces:
"[P]rotesters have put this front and center, to defund, you know, these line items that have overmilitarized our police and instead invest that money in the human capital of your community, make sure that you have the services, the help, the support, the health care necessary to be well and not require police intervention. And then also in some necessary cases, completely dismantling those police forces and rebuilding them."
