Statement on Chronicle Investigation Showing Slowest Police Response Times in Decades

Updated: Sep 5, 2023

PSTX PAC calls for greater support for law enforcement in Houston

HOUSTON – July 11, 2023 – Today, Protect and Serve Texas PAC (PSTX PAC) issued the following statement after a Houston Chronicle investigation revealed that Houston police response times are the slowest since the 1990s, with the number of Houston Police Department (HPD) officers at “about 150 fewer than it has averaged over the last decade.”

“With police response times at their slowest levels in decades, a quarter of Houstonians saying they have been victims of crimes, and over 40% of Houstonians knowing someone who has been a victim of a crime, it’s no wonder crime is the top issue for Houston voters heading into this year’s mayoral election,” said PSTX PAC Spokesman, Donald Baker.

“As some candidates call for police funding to be ‘reprogrammed,’ John Whitmire has stood up for and supported law enforcement his entire career, which is why PSTX PAC is proud to support his candidacy, which will lead to more resources for our men and women in blue.”
